Director of Leadership Initiatives
Jewish Funds for Justice is a national public foundation guided by Jewish history and tradition. Our approach to social change includes grantmaking and lending, service learning, leadership development, organizing, education, and advocacy.
Position summary
JFSJ seeks an energetic and motivated Director of Leadership Initiatives to drive all aspects of the Selah Leadership Program*, from developing strategy to managing execution. S/he will report to the Chief of Field Operations and will supervise the Associate Director of Leadership Initiatives, and additional support staff and consultants as necessary. This position includes working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
- Serve as public face of Selah Leadership Program, deepening its reputation as the premier leadership training program for Jewish social justice leaders. Articulate and elevate JFSJ’s thought leadership in the field of Jewish and social justice leadership training spaces.
- Network and build relationships with thought leaders in the field of leadership development, as well as potential applicants to advance JFSJ’s goals.
- Oversee the recruitment, outreach and selection processes for all Selah cohorts, including development of new criteria for selection as necessary.
- Supervise and manage Associate Director and temporary staff to successfully achieve benchmarks within current two year grant cycle.
- Recruit, develop and lead the Selah Advisory Board and the Network Leadership Team, oversee Selah Network events and calendar.
- Provide as needed support and assistance to JFSJ’s internal training, leadership development initiatives, and other duties as they arise.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 5+ years of leadership development experience (strong facilitation and coaching skills).
- Experience identifying and developing talent.
- Some knowledge of and/or experience in leadership development, social justice, community organizing, and non-profit fields.
- Comfortable working with and leading teams of senior leaders
- Ability to communicate mission and vision to internal and external stakeholders, donor community.
- Comfortable supervising others and a sense of humor
- Superb project management skills (excellent research, writing, strategic planning, and analytic skills).
- Models leadership qualities of training program: presence, vision, self-awareness, emotional intelligence.

Program Leader (multiple)
Program Leaders will staff JFSJ’s service learning travel programs, which provide opportunities for groups of college students, young adults, teens and families to participate in on-the-ground service in partnership with communities throughout the United States; to learn about relevant historical, social, and political issues through the lens of Jewish ethics and values; and to reflect on their own engagement in the world.
Each program lasts between four and seven days, and is staffed by two or more Program Leaders.
