Director of Advocacy

JFSJ seeks an energetic and motivated Director of Advocacy to join its program staff team. The Advocacy Director will report to the Chief Strategy Officer. The Director's primary responsibilities will be to oversee the strategic development and implementation of all advocacy and policy related activities for the organization. The Director will serve as JFSJ's expert on key legislation at the federal, state, and local level, particularly around green jobs and the emerging clean energy economy. Other issues will likely include community investing and service learning.
Major Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the CSO and other program staff to set the legislative priorities for the organization, develop policy positions and select issues appropriate for advocacy work;
- Design and impliment strategic advocacy campaigns utilizing grassroots strategies, policy expertise, and earned and paid media, working with all relevant departments;
- Represent JFSJ in Congress, the administration and related agencies, among activists, in coalitions and at conferences and other meetings;
- Direct JFSJ's partnership in coalitions related to specific advocacy issues;
- Will travel regularly between the New York and Washington, D.C. offices.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of public policy and/or advocacy work required;
- Strong organizational management skills required;
- Experience in directing national or regional issue campaigns required;
- Experience in grassroots organizing or constituent development a plus;
- Strong political instincts with experience working on U.S. domestic policy and lobbying the U.S. government;
- Understanding of the Jewish community, its issues and institutions a plus;
- Demonstrated ability to develop policy platforms with strong input from affected communities and partners;
- Knowledge of the key policies at the center of green jobs advocacy;
- Ability to work well with colleagues from a distance required;
- Understanding of a range of advocacy tools – from education and awareness raising to tactical mobilization and direct engagement with elected officials;
- Experience leading online advocacy efforts a plus;
- Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills required, along with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to represent JFSJ with skill, knowledge and confidence required;

Associate Director of Communications

The Associate Director’s primary responsibilities will be to write engaging content for print materials, help JFSJ market its programs, and communicate its message to the public through a variety of media, including new media and technologies. Applicants should be self-starters, creative thinkers, and fast learners. JFSJ has a fast-paced work environment, but also values personal development and work-life balance. Experience in social justice nonprofits and/or Jewish organizations is a plus, but not a requirement.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and working closely with the Development Department, the position is part of a four-person Communications Department located in New York. The position has a lot of room for creativity and project management.
Major Responsibilities:
- Write, edit, produce, and distribute print materials including annual reports, press releases, brochures, and more
- Help increase JFSJ’s earned media presence
- Help develop and implement strategies to market the mission, programs, and accomplishments of JFSJ to a broad array of audiences
- Develop stories and profiles for marketing purposes
- Work with design consultants and other vendors to produce and project a consistent image

Manager of Online Operations and New Media

JFSJ is looking for an energetic and motivated Manager of Online Operations and New Media with a passion for using online technologies to create social change. The Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to write online content, develop and implement strategies for engaging JFSJ’s constituencies online, and ensure JFSJ’s websites are dynamic, user-friendly, and up-to-date.
In coordination with the Communications team, the Manager will also help develop the strategic direction of JFSJ’s online presence, execute the organization’s electronic communications strategy, and increase JFSJ’s presence on social media outlets. Ideally, the Manager will have basic web developer skills that will allow for building dynamic web tools and integrating web-based applications via programmatic APIs.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and working closely with the Development Department, the position is part of a four-person Communications Department located in New York. The position has a lot of room for creativity and project management.
Major Responsibilities:
- Write, edit, and disseminate electronic materials including e-newsletters, appeal emails and other e-blasts, website content, and more
- Develop and implement an online communication strategy to maximize list growth and increase website traffic, online giving, and online advocacy
- Create compelling content, features, and online tools for JFSJ’s websites as well as 3rd party sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, YouTube, etc) that support the online strategy
- Identify and implement online technologies and new media tools to support specific departments and projects
- Reenergize, manage, and contribute to jspot.org, JFSJ’s blog and action center
- Ensure that websites are regularly updated, dynamic, user-friendly, and conform to standards of usability and accessibility
- Implementation of strategic website improvements, including development and maintenance of customized online tools, such as online application pages

Database Administrator
Reports to:Associate Director of Development

The Database Administrator’s primary responsibility will be to manage JFSJ’s databases: Raiser’s Edge, GetActive, and other data information applications. As a key member of the development team, the Administrator will utilize Raiser’s Edge to help meet the organization’s fundraising goals, improve synchronization of JFSJ’s information between databases, and send regular emails to JFSJ supporters through the GetActive system. Reporting to the Associate Director of Development and working closely with Communications and Finance Departments, the position is part of a seven-person Development Department in New York. JFSJ has a fast-paced work environment, but also values personal development and work-life balance. Experience in social justice nonprofits and/or Jewish organizations is a plus, but not a requirement.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide database administration to assure that the Raiser’s Edge database supports the transactional and informational needs of the organization.
- Manage data entry for all gifts so that the processing, tracking, reporting, and acknowledgement of gifts are performed in an accurate and timely fashion. Liaise with the Finance Department to ensure that all gifts are tracked.
- Ensure quality and accuracy of information in databases and files.
- Manage the GetActive database that allows constituents to learn about the organization, register for email communications and personalized content, take action on advocacy campaigns, make online donations, and get information on events.
- Coordinate the online communications schedule, create event pages and advocacy campaigns, build HTML emails, and send emails through the GetActive database.
- Produce regular reports tracking donor acknowledgements and receipts, as well as building and running unique queries as needed by development and other departments.
- Monitor and manage the performance of the database to assure efficient operation.
- Build effective working relationships, encourage participation to enhance the team’s cohesiveness, emphasize overall objectives, and reinforce cooperation.
- Keep all database users up-to-date, informed, and confident of data issues and processes.
- Stay current on professional, technical, and evolving work related issues; serve as a resource for advice or information on best practices to colleagues.
Qualifications:
- Superior proficiency with Raiser’s Edge software
- Proficiency with online platforms (GetActive/Convio)
